Travelling? Don't Forget to Pack Travel Insurance!
You could say that travel insurance is a lot like sunscreen...you don't miss it, until you realize you should have had it on....
If you wouldn't travel south without sunscreen, you shouldn't be travelling without insurance. Before you pack your flip flops, you'll want to talk to your insurance broker about what travel insurance option is right for you.
Emergency Medical Care
Consider the most minor of accidents, such as stubbing your toe on a piece of coral at the beach; or more serious events, such as food poisoning, or infections. Emergency Medical Care insurance will provide protection for the costs you incur when paying for medical attention while you're on vacation.

Trip Cancellation insurance will protect the value of your trip, in the event you cannot go due to unforeseen events, such as a snowstorm, or illness.

It is important to talk to your coverage provider regarding any pre-existing conditions (current medications, illnesses, etc...) as Emergency Medical Care coverage is designed for sudden and accidental injury or sickness. In some cases, if your condition has been stable for a specified period of time, you may be allowed coverage for sickness on your trip relating to your pre-existing condition; however, it must first be reviewed by your provider. It is also important to note that some activities such as parasailing or sky diving, are not covered by travel insurance.
Travelers Checklist:
- Purchase travel insurance to cover emergency medical expenses;
- Leave a copy of your passport, travel insurance documents, and itinerary, home with a close friend or family member. You may also want to exchange copies with your travel partner;
- If you are leaving your home unattended, you must have it checked daily to ensure your heat is maintained and pipes have not burst due to freezing. If this is not an option, contact your insurance broker to discuss alternatives; otherwise, you may jeopardize certain home insurance coverage;
- Avoid posting your anticipated travel dates on Social Media; an empty house can be seen as an invitation for crime.
