What to do after a Car Accident

Accidents happen - and whether it is a minor fender bender, or a serious collision, a rush of adrenaline can make it difficult to be calm and think clearly.  Here is a quick checklist of what to do following a car accident:

Determine if anyone is hurt.  Make sure everyone in your vehicle and any other involved vehicle is responsive and okay. Even if you feel okay, be cautious when you're getting out of your vehicle

Call Emergency Services if needed.  Depending on your location, police may not attend minor accidents where there are no injuries; however, an emergency dispatcher will assist you in making that call.

Exchange information with the other involved driver.  Take a photo of the other drivers' pink liability card, and allow them the same opportunity. If the driver's name is not the same as on the insurance card, note that as well, and ask for a phone number.  Having this information will ensure an insurance claim will proceed without delay.

Take photos. Document the scene with photos of the accident scene, and any damage.  Note the street address or intersection as well as weather and road conditions at the time of the accident.

Document Witnesses and/or other Passengers. Take the name and contact details of any witnesses, and/or passengers.

Avoid discussions about responsibility.  Only an insurance adjuster or investigator is able to properly determine the responsibility of an accident. Emotions can run high, so it is best to avoid discussing who was responsible or confrontation.

Contact your Insurance Broker.  In most cases, you will need to speak directly with the Insurance carrier to report the details, but we will work with you and provide guidance to make sure that your claim is processed correctly.

How to Report A Claim:

During Business Hours: If you have a claim during regular business hours (Monday-Friday) please contact us directly. We will guide you through the process and assist you in making a claim.

After-Hours: If you are faced with an after-hours claim, we suggest contacting your insurance company directly using the directory below; or, calling  1-855-HUEST01 (1-855-483-7801) for assistance.

Backyard pools can be summer fun entertainment for the whole family – but they also come with very serious risk. An accident only takes a second, and often involves young children who gain access to a pool without a self-closing and self-latching gate. If you own a pool, we urge you to take the time to install safety measures.
